Western University (Western) ranks within the top 10 research intensive universities in Canada and top 200 in the world (The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023).


Dr. Hu has excellent experience in mentoring trainees at different levels. Many of his trainees have received international and national awards, accepted into top graduate schools (like Oxford, Cambridge, UCLA, CMU, Toronto, UBC, McGill), and employed in high-tech companies (like Google, Microsoft, Amazon).


Dr. Hu is currently recruiting two postdoctoral fellows and multiple MSc and PhD students in 2023. All accepted full time postdoctoral fellows and PhD and MSc students will be provided with full funding. Graduate Students


Dr. Hu is accepting graduate students from the below four departments:


1. Department of Biochemistry

For applicants with human genetics, bioinformatics and/or (bio)chemistry background and strong programming skill, you can apply for graduate student positions with Collaborative Specialization in Machine Learning in Health and Biomedical Sciences (https://uwo.ca/sci/datascience/graduate/collaborative-specialization-ml-health-biomedical.html) in my lab through the Department of Biochemistry (https://www.schulich.uwo.ca/biochem/graduate/future_students/application_process.html).


2. Department of Computer Science

3. Department of Statistics
For applicants trained in statistics, you can apply for graduate student positions in my lab through the Department of Statistics (https://www.uwo.ca/stats/graduate/application-procedure.html).


4. Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics

For applicants trained in quantitative sciences (e.g. biostatistics, mathematics, electrical and computer engineering, etc.)., you can apply for graduate student positions in my lab through the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics (https://www.schulich.uwo.ca/epibio/graduate/future_students/application_information.html).


 

Summer, Co-op, and Internship Research


We have internal funds to support 1-2 summer, co-op, or internship research students every year.

Applicants should have backgrounds in statistics, computer science, or human genetics or chemistry with strong programming skills.

Applicants who are interested in applying for federal and local funding (NSERC Undergraduate Summer Research Award, CIHR Undergraduate Summer Student Health Research Award, etc.) for summer research, please contact the PI to discuss the applications as early as possible (January -March).

For all applicants, you should have a GPA >3.5 of 4.
